Founded in 2000 by fillmmaker Kami Chisholm, Altcinema is an independent film & video production and distribution company.

Altcinema produces documentaries and fiction films and videos, ranging in style and genre from political documentaries to experimental works to traditional narrative fiction. We focus primarily on films with queer content and/or that are of interest to gay, lesbian, queer, transgender, intersex, bisexual, and/or women's communities. We are especially interested in producing and distributing films by and about women of color.

In 2006, Altcinema launched its distribution service in order to showcase high quality work by women/queer/transgender/intersex artists, including first-time filmmakers. From festival veterans to newcomers, we tailor our services to best promote the films we distribute and pay royalties to filmmakers.

Altcinema distributes short and feature length films for festival and commercial release. We do consider films that have not yet screened at any festivals and are particularly interested in independent/experimental/non-Hollywood style films as well as films that are suitable for college/educational environments. However, all genres, styles, film lengths, and formats are welcome if you believe your work fits with our mission.
